This is a fascinating story all the way through. Updale has created a fictionalized historical setting with a great blend of totally human, deep, sometimes flawed and failing characters. Seldom have I seen a book series with so many plot twists, secrets, intense situations, and other aspects to keep the reader guessing and on the edge of their seat.
